What the provincial framework changes
Alberta’s Private Sewage Disposal Systems Regulation adopts the 2021 Alberta Private Sewage Systems Standard of Practice. Certified contractors can obtain permits for private sewage design and installation through the applicable safety-codes authority.
The practical result is that a septic decision cannot be separated from the property record. The applicable authority may need a permit, registration, filing, notification, approval or certified professional depending on the province and project.
Three files worth building

Maintenance filePumping, service, alarms, repairs and treatment-unit maintenance.
Property fileWater supply, easements, setbacks, lot changes and future construction plans.
